Short, straight needles are great for the Scandinavian knitting method. The longer, more common straight needles (35 cm) are actually meant for those who knit with the European method, where you hold one needle under your arm. It is a more old fashioned method with larger movements.
Those of us who knit with both needles, need shorter straght needles or you will soon get tired - especially as the project grows heavier!
